MATCH REPORTS

Tonbridge Jnr Athletic v Rusthall

On a cold wet and windy morning we were once again playing for the third week away at Tonbridge. On a small pitch, the first 10 minutes saw neither side creating controlled football, however it was Rusthall that seemed to be able to break away from wide positions to open the game up and with a surging run from Jordon Smith down the right he swung a threw ball into the line of Billy’s run who took it past a defender and struck the ball straight away to the left of the oncoming keeper which saw the ball run along hitting the post into the goal. With some more attacking play a surge from Shakane who fed the ball into the path of Jordon Smith on the right wing who cut past the defender, which looked as though he was going to pass across the face of goal to the waiting green attackers. However, seeing the keeper off his line, expecting the same, Jordon fired a shot at goal which foxed the keeper making it 2.0 to Rusthall.

Second half came, with the introduction of Tyler F and Mungo and added a more direct attacking formation. Good play from Tyler saw a ball come lose in the opposition goal line with Mungo using everything to get a goal which was gobbled up by the keeper. A few big kicks from the Tonbridge Team opened us up with the Rusthall defense leaving the Tonbridge players behind them open to slot home a loose ball to make it 2.1. With good attacks and defensive displays from both teams towards the end of the game, the game ended a 2.1 win for Rusthall.

An unbeaten run in the league to date, showing that we have done really well to push / hold a result. This leaves us 2nd in the league with a week of for us to welcome Ashurst Wood in two weeks time.

Well done boys, thanks to Mick Ebsworth for running the line again.

Tonbridge Jnr Albion v Rusthall CDJFL CUP GAME

This was always going to be a hard game for us, playing a team in a higher league, top of the table, which are unbeaten in 4 games. However, I don’t think Tonbridge expected the determination that Rusthall brought to the pitch who gave everything to this game.

Everyone on the pitch played superb, when we went a goal down from a superb free kick, it has been known for us to drop our heads, but not this game. We plugged away and got a goal back with Mungo tapping the ball over the line from a fumble in the goal mouth.

With 1.1 at half time with 30 minutes of counter attacks from both sides it become a frantic battle to get that one goal to not go into extra time. Unfortunately with less than 30 seconds before the end of added time Tonbridge scored to go through to the next round of the Cup.

This was a physical game that resulting in a few players getting injured which was annoying, which we all hope they get fit and ready for the next game on Saturday, back again to Tonbridge.

Andy congratulated everyone for a superb game and found it difficult to pick a single player for man of the match, with Jack playing superb in goal, and coming off his line to stop one on ones with the keeper, the entire defence working well to close the strong attacks from Tonbridge, with Will having a particularly good game. The midfield working well to go forward and back up the pitch, when needed and the forwards coming on and off making themselves a nuisance up front.

With this in mind Andy gave Man of the match to everyone as they all played superb.

Thanks to Mick Ebsworth for running the line.

Tonbridge Invicta v Rusthall

With the Invicta defence playing very deep and their midfield playing too high up the pitch it left our midfield and strikers to take control of the first half. Mungo scored two, both from a long through ball to leave Mungo on goal with only the keeper to get past. Billy scored from close range and from just inside the area. Jordon Smith scored twice from quite far out across the face of goal. At the end of the first half Rusthall were 6.0 up.

With changes up front in the second half with Tyler F coming on, the team put the pressure on Invicta again and it was not long before Mungo scored again, collecting his hat-trick. Later on in the second half Tyler placed his shot well, past the keeper to make it 8.0 Then another good strike from him made it 9.0. With only 10 minutes to go, Invicta came back with a few goals with a few questions over positioning, however with the result so one sided, it was difficult to be disappointed with 2 goals going in.

Well done boys for another solid performance, Cup game next week against another Tonbridge team, let’s hope it’s a repeat performance.

Rusthall FC v Maresfield

On a very windy day at Jockey Farm we welcomed Maresfield for the third match in the league. From the start Rusthall were on it, and produced wave of attacks at the Maresfield defence. It was not long before Mungo with “terrorise them” ringing in his ears from Andy and Mark, shot the ball past the keeper for his first, then second, then third, and yes forth goal in the first half. With Mungo’s dad praying he forgot he mentioned £10.00 per goal???.

Without taking anything from Mungo, the quality of the balls being fed to Mungo from midfield were superb, Well done midfield. The second half say some changes to the squad and with us facing up hill, we expected to have a harder time of it. Thankfully it was not long before Ryan got in on the act from a great ball from Joshua to slot home his first goal for the club, well done. Then Jordon S scored a screamer from the right side of the pitch across the goal, with Tyler M playing one of his best games, making superb touches, with his best touch of the game coming from just outside of the area to fire home a goal. Jordon S ended the game with the final kick of the game to score again to make it 8.0.

A superb win, great attitude on the pitch from the forwards, midfield, defence and keeper, and leading us nicely into our game, next week at Tonbridge.

Mungo got Man of the match.

Ringmer FC v Rusthall FC

With a smaller squad, and players having to fill in positions they are not used too, it was a hard game for us away at Ringmer. Ringmer looked good on the ball, and played neat football. With two well taken goals from Ringmer in the first half and a well timed strike thanks to Jordon J, who fired his shot from outside the area, to bring the half time score 2.1. A few changes got us back to our normal game, with a lot better football, but it seemed as though the pitch was smaller or we had less time on the ball as we were not as fluid with our passing as we know we can be. However, with more attempts on goal we had a bit of luck to force a penalty, but Jack just hit it wide (unlucky Jack) Thanks to Jack DL, who playing one of his best matches in goal saving at lest three goal bound wonder strikes. Will played superb today and Ryan who has only recently joined the team worked really hard and forced himself onto the defence.

I think the team knows that we can play better, and with more work on passing and striking and most importantly KEEPING POSITION needed, we should bounce back nicely to play at home in an actual league game on Saturday. Thanks to those that made the long trip down to Ringmer (and to Damian for running the line again).

Rusthall FC v Pembury FC

With our side to full strength, we were surprised to be under pressure for at least 15 minutes against a strong Pembury team. We seemed not to get into our gear, which was frustrating to see. The opposition scoring mid way through the first half from a sweeping corner which curled across the area, for the free ball to be planted in the back of the net.

With our heads low, it took a stroke of genius (or luck, sorry Jordon) for the Pembury goalkeeper to kick the ball from a goal kick near to the half way line for Jordon to smack it back on the volley for it to bounce in front of the on coming goal keeper, bounce over his head and into the back of the goal. Our spirits lifted, we started to improve, but we gave

away a free kick and our defensive line pushed too far back, allowing an error in the box for a Pembury penalty. Well taken and 2.1 down at half time. Second half we introduced Mungo, and he did what he was asked and scared the defence into making an error for him to slot home a goal. 2.2 Then with 10 minutes to go Mungo forced a penalty for us, with Jack B to take and calmly slotted it in 3.2. With a few scares at the other end we held out for a win. Fantastic effort for us to come back, let’s hope we do not have to do my catch up in future games. Once we were playing our game in the second half it was great to see Jack in goal, collecting the ball and controlling his area well. The defence controlled and

allowed no mistakes to happen for the opposition to come back. The midfield working to get back and support whilst moving the ball well through the pitch, and the forwards working hard to close down the goal keeper and defence.

Well done everyone, 2nd in league.

Ridgewaye Falcons v Rusthall FC

With a limited squad for our first game, we took an early lead from Mungo who made his mark as striker today, who causing problems for the opposition keeper and defence. Later in the second half Ridgewaye levelled with a goal from a corner. With a few changes in the second half we had more chances than Ridgewaye to get a winner, but the ball just would not go n the back of the net. This was mainly due to the superb goal keeping skills from

the Ridgewaye keeper who kept it 1.1 at full time. Well done to all for a good effort for the first league game at 11 a side.

Team trip to Crystal Palace FC.
